Nursing profession: no discrimination. Equal pay for equal work, says, AD
Alternattiva Spokesperson on Social Issues, disability and sports, Dr Claire Azzopardi Lane, said: “While it is now an acceptable fact of our society that jobs funded with public money are open to all EU citizens and to other citizens, when needed, it is totally unacceptable that Maltese nurses are treated in a different way from these new foreign recruits. It would seem that we are now reaching the absurd situation whereby a Maltese nurse with years of experience would earn fifty per cent of what a newly employed foreign nurse will earn. This would be sheer exploitation, with Maltese being utilized as cheap labour by the Maltese government.
Alternattiva Demokratika denounces such exploitation and demands that the government puts its money where its mouth is. Therefore, equal pay for equal work is a must in a democratic and civil society. Discrimination is simply unacceptable“.

Il-professjoni tal-infermiera: ebda diskriminazzjoni kontra l-Maltin. Kulħadd għandu jitħallas l-istess għall-istess xogħol, tgħid AD
Il-kelliema ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika għall-affarijiet soċjali, diżabilita` u sport, Dr Claire Azzopardi Lane, qalet: “Filwaqt li llum il-ġurnata huwa aċċettabbli li impjiegi pubbliċi ikunu miftuħa għaċ-ċittadini kollha tal-UE, u għal ċittadini oħra meta jkun hemm il-ħtieġa, huwa kompletament inaċċettabbli li infermiera Maltin jigu ittrattati b’mod differenti minn ħaddiema barranin. Issa jidher li qegħdin naslu fis-sitwazzjoni assurda fejn infermiera Maltin bi snin ta’ esperjenza, jistghu jaqilgħu in-nofs ta’ dak li jaqilgħu infermiera barranin li jkunu għadhom kif jibdew jaħdmu. Dan ma jkun għajr sfruttament, fejn ħaddiema Maltin ikunu qed jiġu użati għal xogħol bi ħlas baxx mill-Gvern Malti.
Alternattiva Demokratika tikkundanna dan l-isfruttament u ssejjaħ biex il-Gvern jagħmel dak li jwiegħed. Ħlas indaqs għal xogħol l-istess huwa prinċipju bażiku f’soċjeta’ ċivili u demokratika. Id-diskriminazzjoni hija sempliċiment inaccettabbli.
