ADPD jfakkar il-vittmi tal-vjolenza politika

Riżultat tal-qtil politiku ta’ persuni bħal Raymond Caruana u Karin Grech kontinwament  nirriflettu fuq il-kruha tal-vjolenza politika u l-konsegwenzi tagħha. Dawn l-okkażjonijiet għandhom iservu biex nibqgħu naħdmu favur is-saltna tad-dritt u l-bżonn ta’ djalogu politiku kontinwu speċjalment fejn hemm ideat li jikkuntrastaw. Dan għandu jkun djalogu matur b’lingwaġġ li jispira l-kooperazzjoni, u t-tiftix tas-soluzzjonijiet.

Dan qalitu ċ-Chairperson tal-ADPD – The Green Party, Sandra Gauci, meta flimkien mas-Segretarju Ġenerali tal-partit, Ralph Cassar poġġew fjuri fuq il-mafkar ta’ Karin Grech f’San Ġwann illum.

Hemm bżonn li l-istituzzjonijiet jitħallew jaħdmu fil-libertà u li jkunu jistgħu jissorveljaw l-operat tal-Gvern biex il-korruzzjoni u l-abbuż ta’ poter ikunu kontinwament indirizzati u mxekkla. Matul is-sena rajna ħafna każi ta’ abbuż ta’ poter u dan kważi tħalla għaddej mill-istituzzjonijiet. Imnalla kienu l-ġurnalisti li kixfu dawn l-abbużi għax kieku qisu qatt ma sar xejn. Għad hawn bżonn urġenti li jitnaqqas it-tribaliżmu bejn l-aħmar u l-blu li storikament nissel il-firda u l-vjolenza fuq skala nazzjonali. It-tribaliżmu nissel sistema ta’ nepotiżmu, klijenteliżmu u anke vjolenza.

Dan l-episodju imdemmi fl-istorja ta’ pajjiżna, flimkien ma’ episodji oħra li fakkarna tul is-sena bħall-qtil ta’ Raymond Caruana u l-assassinju ta’ Daphne Caruana Galizia jappartjenu lill-pajjiż u ‘l-poplu Malti kollu. Hemm bżonn sinjali ċari u sostnuti minn kulħadd li pajjiżna huwa kontra l-vjolenza, tiġi minn fejn tiġi u tolqot lil min tolqot, temmet tgħid Gauci.

Greens remember the victims of political violence

Following the politically-motivated murders of people like Raymond Caruana and Karin Grech, we constantly reflect on the atrocity of political violence and its consequences.  Such happenings should remind us of the need to work to uphold the rule of law and maintain the need for continuous political dialogue, especially where ideas differ.  Such dialogue should be done in a mature manner, using language that inspires cooperation and solution seeking.

This was the main message from ADPD – The Green Party Chairperson Sandra Gauci, who together with the Secretary General of the party, Ralph Cassar, placed flowers at the memorial of Karin Grech in San Ġwann today.

There is the need for institutions to be allowed to work in freedom and continually monitor government operations so that corruption and abuse of power is addressed and kept in check. During this year we have witnessed numerous cases involving the abuse of power which has been more or less given the blessing of the institutions. Thankfully, these abuses have been exposed by journalists, as otherwise they would have gone unnoticed.  There is the urgent need for less blue and red tribalism, which has created a divide and violence on a national scale.  Tribalism has begotten a system of nepotism, clientelism and even violence.

This murder, a bloodied chapter in the history of our country, together with other dark chapters that we have remembered earlier this year, such as the murder of Raymond Caruana and the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, are part of the country’s collective memory and a stain on the history of the Maltese people.  There is the need for all of us to take a clear stance that our country is against violence, whatever and whoever is affected, concluded Gauci.
