Following the second round of vandalism in Swieqi in the short space of a few days, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said: “Despite the well publicised ministerial key handing ceremony a month ago, the police station in Swieqi is not yet open. What is needed in Swieqi are a couple of policemen doing continuously the rounds in order to dissuade vandals from getting into action. Prevention is much better than cure. Failure to have a dissuading police presence in the area will further increase the frustrations of residents, who feel helpless and abandoned by the authorities in the face of these continuous acts of vandalism.”

Wara t-tieni episodju ta’ vandaliżmu fi ftit jiem fis-Swieqi, iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika, il-Prof. Arnold Cassola, qal: “Minkejja ċ-ċerimonja ministerjali ta’ xahar ilu tant ippubbliċizzata meta s-Segretarjju Parlamentari għadda c-cwievet lill-Kunsill Lokali, l-għassa tal-pulizija fis-Swieqi għadha ma nfetħitx. Dak li s-Swieqi għandu bżonn huma almenu żewġ pulizija jagħmlu r-ronda kontinwament fit-toroq biex jiddiswadu lil vandali potenzjali mili jidħlu fl-azzjoni. Il-prevenzjoni hija ħafna aħjar mill-kura. Jekk mhux ser ikun hemm preżenza tal-pulizija fiż-żona bħala deterrent il-frustrazzjoni tar-residenti ser tikber aktar, billi dawn qed iħossuhom impotenti u abbandunati għal rashom mill-awtoritajiet.”
