Swieqi needs some serious surveillance

As Swieqi residents, we demand that a police station is kept open on a 24-hour basis in the Swieqi area to serve the needs of the over 10,000 Swieqi-Ta’ l-Ibraġ-St Andrews-Madliena residents.
It is absurd that with the hordes of people – including minors – roaming about the streets of this residential area at three or four in the morning screaming their hearts out and disturbing the public peace and trampling on the right to rest of the residents, no concrete definite action is taken by the authorities.
Alternattiva Demokratika believes that the hosting of young students in hotels and unsupervised residences in large numbers should be actively discouraged – with preference given to hosting within families.
Such large groups of youngsters need more competent supervision at night and they must be taught not to annoy residents.
The businesses organising the arrival of language school students who are minors should be held responsible for the students’ actions during their stay and provide adequate insurance for any damage done to the property of residents and any disturbance of public peace.
