Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party welcomed the changes in legislation on freedom of movement which discriminated against EU nationals in same sex relations.
Angele Deguara, AD Spokesperson for Social Policy, said: “AD welcomes the fact that, following pressure from the European Commission, the Government has finally removed the clause in Maltese legislation which discriminated against EU nationals in same sex relationships, which denied them the same rights to freedom of movement which they enjoyed in other EU countries. Therefore, rights obtained by same-sex couples in other EU countries cannot be denied in Malta.”
Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer, AD Spokesperson for Civil Rights, said: “As the only party in Malta which advocates equal rights to LGBT persons, AD urges the Government to take action so that LGBT persons will have their relationships legally recognised and their rights protected”.
Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said: “Yet again the Maltese Government dragged its feet on the rights of LGBT people, but the pressure on the European Commission by LGBT rights movements such as ILGA-Europe and MGRM was successful. Within the European Parliament, the European Greens are giving prominence to LGBT rights. As a Green Party we look forward to further progress in LGBT rights. AD is against any form of discrimination in social and family policy on the basis of one’s sexuality”
L-AD tilqa’ b’sodisfazzjon legizlazzjoni dwar liberta’ ta’ moviment ta’ koppji tal-istess sess
L-Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party laqghet b’sodisfazzjon il-bidliet fil-legizlazzjoni dwar liberta’ ta’ moviment li kienet qed tiddiskrimina kontra cittadini tal-UE li huma f’relazzjoni ma’ persuni tal-istess sess.
Angele Deguara, il-kelliema tal-AD ghall-politika socjali, qalet: “L-AD tixtieq tesprimi s-sodisfazzjon taghha ghall-fatt li, wara pressjoni mill-Kummissjoni Ewropea, il-Gvern fl-ahhar iddecieda li jnehhi l-klawzola mil-ligi Maltija li kienet tiddiskrimina kontra cittadini tal-UE li jkollhom relazzjoni ma persuna tal-istess sess u li kienet iccahhad lill-istess persuni id-dritt tal-liberta’ tal-moviment li kienu jgawdu f’pajjizi ohra tal-UE. Ghalhekk issa l-istess drittijiet li ghandhom koppji tal-istess sess f’pajjizi ohra tal-UE ma jistghux jigu michuda lilhom f’Malta.”
Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer, il-kelliema tal-AD dwar id-drittijiet civili, qalet: “Bhala l-uniku partit f’Malta li jippromwovi drittijiet indaqs ghall-persuni LGBT, l-AD tappella biex il-Gvern jiehu azzjoni sabiex persuni LGBT ikollhom ir-relazzjonijiet taghhom rikonoxxuti mil-ligi u d-drittijiet taghhom protetti.”.
Michael Briguglio, ic-Chairperson tal-AD, qal: “Ghal darb’ohra il-Gvern Malti qaghad ikaxkar saqajh biex jirrispetta d-drittijiet ta’ persuni LGBT imma l-pressjoni fuq il-Kummissjoni Ewropea minn gruppi li jahdmu favur id-drittijiet ta’ dawn il-persuni bhall-ILGA u l-MGRM halliet il-frott taghha. Fi hdan il-Parlament Ewropew, il-European Greens qed jaghtu hafna importanza lid-drittijiet ta’ persuni LGBT. Bhala Green Party ahna nittamaw li jsir aktar progress f’dan il-qasam. L-AD hija kontra kull forma ta’ diskriminazzjoni fuq bazi ta’ orjentazzjoni sesswali kemm fil-politika socjali kif ukoll dik tal-familja.”
