Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party reiterated its stance against discrimination to non-Maltese EU citizens who live in Malta.
Prof. Arnold Cassola, AD spokesperson for EU and International Affairs said: “AD expresses its satisfaction that Nationalist MEP, Dr. Simon Busuttil, has followed AD’s lead in ensuring the enforcement of EU civil rights regarding institutional discrimination against 25,000 non-Maltese EU identity card holding citizens in respect of their household water and electricity bills. The European Commission is currently assessing the legality of the terms and conditions imposed by ARMS Ltd. on non-Maltese EU identity card holding citizens in this regard”.
Robert Callus, AD Spokesperson for Citizenship and Migration, said: “AD has received numerous complaints concerning discrimination against non-Maltese EU citizens vis-à-vis Personal banking, Telephony, Internet service provision, Shipping/Owner fees, the Two-tier bus fare scheme, European health insurance cards (EHICs), Licensing fees for ‘foreign’ market property rentals and Defendants’ rights. These issues need to be addressed by the competent authorities”.
Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said: “Non-Maltese EU citizens who live in Malta should not be discriminated against. We shall keep making the necessary pressure in order that such discrimination is stopped. We also insist that Maltese citizens living in other EU member states should be granted full rights in the respective countries.”
Aktar infurzar ta’ drittijiet civili ta’ cittadini tal-UE – AD
L-Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party tenniet il-pozizzjoni taghha kontra diskriminazzjoni fuq cittadini tal-UE li mhumiex Maltin imma jghixu Malta.
Prof. Arnold Cassola, il-Kelliem tal-AD dwar l-UE u l-Affarijiet Internazzjonali, qal: “L-AD tesprimi s-sodisfazzjoni taghha li l-MEP Nazzjonalista Dr. Simon Busuttil, mexa fuq il-passi tal-AD biex jigi assigurat l-infurzar ta’ drittijiet civili tal-UE rigward diskriminazzjoni istituzzjonali kontra 25,000 cittadini tal-UE li mhumiex Maltin imma ghandhom karta tal-identita’ Maltija fir-rigward tal-kontijiet tad-dawl u l-ilma. Bhalissa il-Kummissjoni Ewropea qed tezamina il-legalita’ tat-termini u l-kundizzjonijiet imposti mill-kumpanija ARMS Ltd fuq dawn in-nies.”
Robert Callus, il-Kelliem tal-AD fuq ic-Cittadinanza u l-Migrazzjoni, qal: “L-AD irceviet numru ta’ ilmenti fuq diskriminazzjoni kontra cittadini tal-UE li mhumiex Maltin fejn jidhlu servizzi bankarji personali, telefonija, provizjoni tas-servizz tal-internet, mezati tax-Shipping/Owner, l-iskemi diferenti tan-nollijiet tal-karozzi tal-linja, il-European health insurance cards (EHICs)u mezati tal-licenzji ghall-‘foreign’ market property rentals u Defendants’ rights. Dawn il-problemi ghandhom jigu indirizzati mill-awtoritajiet kompetenti”.
Michael Briguglio, ic-Chairperson tal-AD, qal: “Cittadini tal-UE li mhumiex Maltin imma li joqoghdu Malta m’ghandhomx jigu iddiskriminati. Ahna ser nibqghu naghmlu pressjoni biex din id-diskriminazzjoni tispicca. Ninsistu wkoll li cittadini Maltin li jghixu fi stati membri ohra tal-UE jinghataw id-drittijiet kollha f’dawn il-pajjizi wkoll”.
