Russian and Chinese Veto condemns more Syrians to death

Following the massacre of over 300 people in the city of Homs,
in Syria, China and Russia have vetoed a UN resolution condemning the
brutality of the Syrian depot Assad.

Prof. Arnold Cassola, AD Spokesperson on EU and International
Affairs, said: “The veto by the Russian and Chinese governments is
equivalent to the signing of a death sentence on more innocent Syrian
civilians. The Maltese government and other EU governments should use
all their powers of persuasion to convince the Russian and Chinese
authorities to forego their veto. By persisting in wielding it, these
two governments risk becoming accomplices of a ruthless despot killing
his own people. This would be a historical mistake of gigantic
proportions”.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson said: “The EU has a global
responsibility to use stronger measures to stop the bloodbath of the
Syrian regime and to support democratic forces of opposition”.
