Following the two day adoption weekend organized by SPCA and attended by hundreds of people, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said: “The SPCA has been housed in cramped premises since 1937. Government had signed a letter of intent in 2008 promising relocation to Ta’ Qali. This letter of intent has remained ‘lettera morta’. Moving the SPCA premises to Ta’ Qali would not only provide more comfort and space for the animals but would also liberate a prime site which at the moment covers up the 17th century Floriana bastions, as well as historical Second World War shelters which, at the moment, house a growing number of dogs being cared for by SPCA.”
Simon Galea, AD spokesperson for Agriculture & Animal Welfare, concluded: “AD urges the relevant authorities to give priority to this case. Not implementing such a promise after 5 years is unacceptable especially since SPCA are facing problems with space for housing abandoned dogs.”

Wara l-attivita’ organizzata mill-SPCA biex jiġu addottati annimali mill-pubbliku, attivita’ li għaliha attendew mijiet ta’ nies, iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika, Prof. Arnold Cassola, qal: “L-SPCA ilha tokkupa spazju zgħir u ffullat mill-1937. Il-Gvern kien iffirma ittra ta’ intenzjoni fl-2008 bil-wegħda li l-SPCA tmur Ta’ Qali. Din l-ittra ta’ intenzjoni baqgħet ‘lettera morta’. Kieku l-SPCA kellha tkun rilokata Ta’ Qali, dan ikun ifisser mhux biss aktar kumdita’ u spazju għall-annimali imma wkoll ikun nħeles sit importanti li bhalissa qiegħed jghatti s-swar tal-Furjana tas-seklu 17, kif ukoll xelters storiċi tat-tieni gwerra dinjija li, bħalissa hemm jgħixu fihom numru dejjem jikber ta’ klieb, li jieħdu hsiebhom l-SPCA”.
Simon Galea, kelliem ta’ AD għall-Agrikoltura u l-Ħarsien tal-Annimali, ikkonkluda billi qal: “AD theġġeġ lill-awtoritajiet konċernati biex jagħtu priorita’ lil dan il-każ. Li wegħda baqgħet ma twettqitx wara ħames snin mhux aċċettabbli speċjalment meta l-SPCA qegħdin jaffaċċjaw problemi ta’ spazju biex ikunu jistgħu jieħdu ħsieb aktar klieb u qtates abbandunati.”
