Reports in the media are saying that the spring hunting season will be opened this coming Friday, on Good Friday.
Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo described the decision as highly irresponsible. “All the good measures taken to control the coronavirus pandemic in Malta are now being undermined by the Government itself. Police, usually about forty police officers, will now have to monitor hunters instead of doing vital public health duties such as monitoring those who are in quarantine.”
“While we are being told to stay at home as much as possible except for essential errands, Government chooses to insult us all by opening the anachronistic spring hunting season for the favoured few. Does Government now expect people to submit to the directives issued by the health authorities? Goodwill has been betrayed.”

Kaċċa fir-rebbiegħa: Gvern irresponsabbli
Illum qed jiġi irrappurtat li l-Gvern iddeċieda li jiftaħ l-istaġun tal-kaċċa fir-rebbiegħa fil-Ġimgħa l-Kbira.
Iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika Carmel Cacopardo iddeskriva din id-deċiżjoni bħala waħda irresponsabbli. “Qed tkun mhedda l-kredibilità tal-miżuri tajba li ttieħdu s’issa biex ikun evitat it-tixrid tal-coronavirus. Il-Pulizija li se jkollhom jagħmlu r-ronda kontra l-abbuzi tal-kaċċaturi, madwar 40 pulizija, se jittieħdu minn fuq xogħol ieħor li hu essenzjali, ewlieni fosthom dak li jkunu sorveljati dawk li qegħdin kwarantina.”
“Jekk il-parir lil kulħadd hu biex nibqgħu ġewwa, sakemm ma jkunx hemm neċessità, mhux qżież dan li qed jinfetaħ l-istaġun tal-kaċċa fir-rebbiegħa? Kif issa nippretendu li l-bqija jsegwu d-direttivi tal-awtoritajiet tas-saħħa? Irresponsabbli!”
