Gaddafi is a threat to the EU
Muammar Gaddafi is a threat to the security of the EU, and should be treated accordingly, said AD.
Prof. Arnold Cassola, Alternattiva Demokratika’s spokesperson on EU and International Affairs, stated that “not content with having tortured and killed his own people, Muammar Gaddafi is now threatening to export his well-known methods of violence to the heart of European homes and families.”
“Gaddafi’s threat is now impinging on the safety of European citizens, and United Nations Resolution 1973 is no longer enough. The Maltese Government should press the EU and the UN for another UN Security Council resolution to be imposed, allowing for increased action by European states on the premise of self-defence”, concluded Arnold Cassola.
Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said that “all EU states should act in unison to protect the integrity and safety of the EU and should provide more support for the democratic forces of opposition. AD urges not only the Nationalist Government to speak out on the issue, but also urges the Labour Party to break its silence and finally condemn Gaddafi openly.”
