Libya: Government should not recognize Gaddafi representatives in Malta

Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party said that it is supporting the requests of Libyans in Malta for the Government to stop recognizing the representatives of Gaddafi in Malta.

Prof. Arnold Cassola, AD Spokesperson on EU and International Affairs, said that “the Libyan Ambassador in Malta is continuing to represent the Gaddafi regime. Muammar Gaddafi and his son Seif al-Islam are wanted by the International Criminal Court in The Hague. We expect the Maltese government not to continue recognizing the representative in Malta of an internationally wanted criminal. At the same time we ask Dr Joseph Muscat whether it is his party’s traditional ties with the Libyan regime that is preventing the Labour Party from declaring loudly and clearly that Gaddafi is a despot, a criminal and a delinquent who has maltreated his own people for 42 years on end”.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said that “AD reiterates its support of democratic forces of opposition not only in Libya, but also in other countries currently characterised by popular uprisings and brutal oppression by dictators. We urge EU and Maltese foreign policy to concretely support such forces”.
