Contrary to public perceptions the Maltese state already finances political parties. Since 1994 both PN and PL have each received €100,000 every year in order to finance their activity on a European and International level. AD – The Green Party considers that this financing of political parties by the state should be extended and should not be limited to the political parties in Parliament.
This was stated by Carmel Cacopardo Deputy Chairperson of AD when presenting a political document on the financing of political parties.
AD’s Executive Committee has approved the attached document , AD’s position on the Bill dealing with the Financing of Political Parties. A copy of this document has already been handed to Minister Owen Bonnici with whom AD has requested a meeting to discuss the Bill currently pending on Parliament’s agenda.
