AD appeals to nurses' humanitarian mission

In view of this morning’s MUMN directive to nurses not to work unless there are three nurses available for major operations, as is international practice, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Prof. Arnold Cassola said: “MUMN is right in pointing out that nurses are understaffed and overworked and we all appreciate this. However, the right place to remedy this is at the discussion table and not by cancelling operations. Punishing vulnerable patients because of the faults of incompetent and arrogant politicians is not on.”

In vista tad-direttiva ta’ dalgħodu tal-MUMN lill-infermiera biex ma jaħdmux f’operazzjonijiet meta jkun hemm inqas minn tliet infirmiera, kif titlob il-prattika internazzjonali, iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika, il-Prof. Arnold Cassola, qal: “L-MUMN għandha ragun li tinnota li l-infirmiera huma understaffed u mgħobbija bix-xogħol u lkoll napprezzaw dan. Madankollu, l-aħjar mod biex tiġi rrimedjata s-sitwazzjoni huma diskussjonijiet madwar mejda u mhux l-ikkanċellar ta’ operazzjonijiet. Li tikkastiga lil pazjenti vulnerabbli minħabba n-nuqqasijiet ta’ politiċi inkompetenti u arroganti mhux aċċettabbli.”
