Action against precarious employment: what about ex Arriva employees?

With regards to precarious employment, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said: “It is good to note that the government has announced that two contractors had been blacklisted for two years after having been found guilty of offering jobs with substandard conditions.
“But what is the government  doing in relation to its own parastatal employees?  Ex-Arriva employees, now Transport Malta employees, have no proper contract. They are paid by the hour and have no fixed basic salary. What is more precarious than this? We expect the government to lead by example and ensure that ex Arriva workers no longer work in precarious conditions.”

Dwar ix-xoghol prekarju, iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, qal: “Huwa tajjeb li l-Gvern ħa azzjoni kontra żewg kuntratturi li mhux ser jingħataw xogħol għal sentejn wara li nstabu ħatja li kienu qeghdin iħaddmu nies b’kundizzjonijiet mhux xierqa.
“Imma x’qiegħed jaghmel il-Gvern dwar l-impjegati tiegħu stess f’kumpaniji parastatali? Ex-ħaddiema tal-Arriva, li issa ġew impjegati minn Transport Malta, m’għandhomx kuntratt kif suppost. Qegħdin jiġu mħallsa bis-siegħa u m’għadhomx dħul fiss. X’jista’ jkun aktar prekarju minn dan? Aħna nippretendu li l-Gvern jagħti eżempju u jara li dawn il-ħaddiema ma jitħaddmux iktar b’mod prekarju.”
