MIDI approval confirms MEPA is developers' authorit

Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party said that MEPA’s approval of a tower block and two residential towers for the MIDI project at Tigne’ in Sliema confirmed that MEPA is heavily tilted towards developers’ interests.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said: “MEPA approved this development through dubious methods, as impact studies were practically inaccessible. This is the same MEPA which gave approval to various mega-projects in the Tigne’ peninsula, rendering it into an overdeveloped zone, when Sliema has a huge supply of vacant properties. Rather than considering the various impacts of such development, MEPA basically acts at the service of developers”.

Carmel Cacopardo, AD spokesperson for Sustainable Development and Home Affairs added: “The conspicuous silence of the Nationalist Party, the Labour Party and the Sliema Local Council confirms that objections to such developments is not enough. Electing green candidates will ensure that residents have a voice in structures of power and that the environment is factored in when taking development decisions. The large number of vacant dwellings spread all over the island should lead to a moratorium on large scale development.”

L-approvazzjoni tal-MIDI tikkonferma li l-MEPA hija awtorita’ tal-izviluppaturi – AD

Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party qalet li l-approvazzjoni mill-MEPA ghal blokk ta’ torri u zewg torrijiet residenzjali ghall-progett tal-MIDI f’Tigne’ f’Tas-Sliema kkonfermat li l-MEPA hija nklinata hafna favur l-interessi tal-izviluppaturi.

Mike Briguglio, Chairperson tal-AD, qal: “MEPA approvat dan l-izvilupp permezz ta metodi dubjuzi, minhabba li studji fuq l-impatt (tal-progett) ma kienux accessibbli. Din hija l-istess MEPA li tat approvazzjoni lil varji mega-progetti fil-penizola ta Tigne, u qeghda tirrendija f’zona zviluppata zzejjed, meta Sliema ghandha hafna proprjetajiet vojta. Minflok ma tikkunsidra l-impatti varji ta’ progett bhal dan, MEPA qieghed bazikament jagixxi ghas-servizz tal-izviluppaturi”.

Carmel Cacopardo, kelliem tal-AD fuq l-Izvilupp Sostenibbli u Affarijiet tal-Intern zied jghid: “Is-silenzju kospikwu tal-partit Nazzjonalista, tal-partit Laburista u tal-Kunsil Lokali tas-Sliema tikkonferma li l-oggezzjonijiet ta progetti bhal dawn mhux bizzejjed. Jekk kandidat tal-AD jigi elett, ikun zgurat li r-residenti jkollhom vuci fl-istrutturi tal-poter u li l-ambjent jigi kkunsidrat meta jittiehdu decizjonijiet tal-izvilupp. In-numru kbir ta’ residenzi vojta li hawn fil-gzira ta’ Malta jrid iwassal ghal moratorium fuq zvilupp fuq skala kbira.”
