Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party said it is becoming clear that the proposed unsustainable development at Manoel Island should be reconsidered. AD has noted the statement of MIDI Chairman Albert Mizzi in which he stated that he is willing to reopen the discussion on the development of Manoel Island.
Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said: “Albert Mizzi’s statement that he is ready to discuss the development at Manoel Island should lead to discussions between Government and MIDI. AD is wary of a repeat of the MIDI development in Tigne’, which has contributed to the uglification of Sliema and which has resulted in unsustainable overdevelopment. The development of 5 storey-apartment blocks, a casino at Manoel Island should be stopped, and any development on the island should be carried out in a sustainable manner for the benefit of the community. Government has already given various financial concessions to MIDI. It is now time to correct its mistakes and give Manoel Island back to the community”.
“Just as it has been doing in the past years, AD will keep on putting forward positive and sustainable proposals for the conservation and regeneration of Manoel Island”.
