Dalgħodu d-Deputat Chairperson ta’ ADPD-The Green Party Dr Melissa J. Bagley akkumpanjata mill-uffiċċjali Brian Decelis u Mark Zerafa ħadu sehem f’protesta quddiem il-Mediterraneo Marine Park in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.
Id-dinja ċċivilizzata temmen li ebda annimal m’għandu jiġi kkonfinat f’ambjent mhux naturali għalih, u fi spazju ristrett. Post id-dniefel huwa fil-baħar apert, mhux f’daqsxejn ta’ għadira. Li njassru annimal fi spazju ċkejken, bil-għan li joffri spettaklu għall-pubbliku hu biss moħqrija ta’ dawn il-kreaturi. It-tbatija tiżdied ferm fil-qilla tax-xemx tas-sajf.
ADPD-The Green Party jesprimi ukoll it-tħassib tagħha dwar il-kundizzjoni tal-ilma li fih qegħdin jinżammu d-dniefel fil-Mediterraneo Marine Park, u tħeġġeġ moniteraġġ regolari sabiex l-ilma jkun ta’ kwalita’ xierqa. Hemm bżonn li nifhmu li dawn il-ħlejjaq m’għandhomx jitqiesu bħala oġġetti ta’ divertiment; hemm bżonn li nfittxu d-divertiment tagħna lilhinn minn intrapriżi li jesplojtaw ħlejjaq għal qliegħ finanzjaru.
ADPD-The Green Party jesprimi sapport għal Earth Systems Association u NGOs oħra fil-ħidma tagħhom favur dawn l-annimali.

PR 02/08/2025 Animals are not ‘performers’ for people’s amusement
Today morning ADPD-The Green Party’s Deputy Chairperson Dr Melissa Bagley accompanied by officials Brian Decelis and Mark Zerafa today took part in a protest outside the Mediterraneo Marine Park in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.
Animals are sentient beings and it is fundamentally wrong to treat them as a mere source of entertainment.
The civilised world firmly believes that no animal should be confined to a small space, far removed from their natural environment. A little pond is not the ideal environment for dolphins, when they evolved to thrive in the open seas. Restricting dolphins to a confined area merely to provide entertainment is clearly animal cruelty; the hot summer weather further exacerbates their suffering.
ADPD-The Green Party is also voicing its concern regarding the quality of the water in which these animals are kept at Mediterraneo Marine Park and calls for regular sampling and testing to ensure that it meets minimum standards.
It needs to be made clear that these animals do not exist for our amusement, and that we need to seek our entertainment away from establishments that enslave animals for this purpose.
ADPD-The Green Party affirms its support for Earth Systems Association and other NGOs in their efforts to safeguard these animals’ wellbeing.
