ADPD asks Ombudsman to investigate damage to St John’s Co-Cathedral

ADPD – The Green Party has asked the Ombudsman to investigate damage done to St John’s Co-Cathedral. In an online article by The Shift News this morning – https://theshiftnews.com/2025/01/18/new-floor-caves-in-as-co-cathedral-project-in-collapse/ – it was reported that damage has been done to the Bartolott Crypt which is being transformed into an exhibition space for the Cathedral’s silver collection. The said damage apparently occurred some time ago but has been kept secret until this morning’s article by The Shift News.

ADPD’s Deputy Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo asked for the matter to be investigated in order to establish whether the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation, the Planning Authority and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage contributed to the damage resulting at St John’s Co-Cathedral as a result of a lack of adequate regulation and monitoring of the works currently in hand.
