AD commends proposed introduction of co-ed across Malta

Alternattiva Demokratika, the Green Party, commends Minister Evarist Bartolo’s decision to introduce co-ed education in secondary across all Malta.

Reuben Zammit, AD’s spokesperson for Youth, said: “The Green Party has long believed in a co-ed system, where male and female students are taught in the same learning environment. In a modern society which affirms the validity of socially inclusive policies, especially in the classroom, gender segregation is clearly contradictory to such values. While we commend the necessary caution to be exercised, and for a continuous assessment to be carried out in order to make the necessary adjustments from time to time, we believe the time is ripe to proceed with this reform.”

Arnold Cassola, AD Chairperson, said: “In implementing this reform, the minister and the Education department have to work hand in hand with teachers, parents and unions.”

Alternattiva Demokratika, the Green Party, tjappoġġa d-deċiżjoni tal-Ministru Evarist Bartolo’s li tiġi introdotta l-edukazzjoni co-ed fl-iskejjel sekondarji f’Malta kollha.

Reuben Zammit, il-kelliem ta’ AD għaż-żgħażagħ, qal: “il-Green Party ilu jemmen f’sistema co-ed, fejn studenti bniet u subien jiġu mgħallma f’ambjent edukattiv wieħed. F’soċjeta` moderna li tħaddan politika soċjali ta’ inklusivita`, speċjalment fil-klassi, is-separazzjoni ta’ studenti skont il-generu tagħhom bla dubju tmur kontra dawn il-valuri. Filwaqt li nħeġġu li dan il-pass isir b’mod għaqli u kawtel, u li ssir evalwazzjoni kontinwa biex ikunu jistgħu isiru xi bidliet meħtieġa, aħna nemmnu li wasal iż-żmien biex din ir-riforma sseħħ”.

Arnold Cassola, chairperson ta’ AD, qal: “Fl-implimentazzjoni ta’ din ir-riforma, il-ministru u d-dipartiment tal-edukazzjoni jeħtieġ li jimxu id f’id mal-għalliema, il-ġenituri u l-unions.”
