ADPD candidates close to the communities they seek to serve

ADPD candidates Melissa Bagley (District 5) and Brian Decelis (District 3 & 4) took part in community events in the localities where they reside as part of their commitment to understand better the needs of the communities they seek to serve.

Bagley and Decelis took part in a walk and workshop designed to explore the diverse perspectives, histories, and contemporary challenges of the coast of Marsaskala.

Starting from the recently superbly renovated St Thomas Tower, they joined a group of participants in a walk all the way to Żonqor point, capturing objects, buildings, activities or scenes that they feel represent Wied il-Għajn today and/or in the past.

This was followed by a round table discussion where participants explored the diverse perspectives, histories and contemporary challenges of the coast of Marsaskala.

The project is developed by the Classics and Archaeology at the University of Malta, in collaboration with MELA in partnership with Marsaskala Parish and Marsaskala Residents Network of which Decelis is an active member.

Bagley also took the opportunity from an Open Day organized by Heritage Malta to visit Fort Bengħajsa in Birżebbuġa ahead of restoration works aimed at making it sustainably accessible to the public.

Commenting with the media, ADPD Chairperson Sandra Gauci said that the appreciation of our cultural and natural heritage is just as essential as economic development and the protection of human dignity.

“Sustainable development is about how we can be in harmony with our surrounding environment, at all times and not just when it suits us, ” reiterated Gauci.

Over the coming days both candidates are expected to address the challenges that their localities face in two separate press conferences.
