Il-Prim Ministru għandu x’jitgħallem mill-President tar-Repubblika

“Nixtieq, f’isem ADPD-The Green Party, nuri l-appoġġ tiegħi lill-President tar-Repubblika Myriam Spiteri Debono. Il-President żammet soda meta rrifjutat donazzjoni mill-kumpanija Binance, kumpanija li mhijiex ġdida għal skandli pjuttost kbar. Din id-deċiżjoni turi l-integrità tagħha u l-fatt li trid tipproteġi mhux biss ir-reputazzjoni tal-Malta Community Chest Fund, iżda wkoll lin-nies li jitolbu l-għajnuna tagħha.” Dan qalitu Sandra Gauci, Chairperson ta’ ADPD-The Green Party wara kummenti mhux f’lokhom mill-Prim Ministru Robert Abela dwar l-operat tal-President tar-Repubblika.

Gauci żiedet tgħid li l-President wriet sens qawwi ta’ tmexxija etika u kuraġġ morali. “Jekk il-MCCF titlef il-kredibbiltà, tkun daqqa ta’ ħarta li tinħass fit-tul, u proprju għalhekk il-President għażlet li tirrifjuta din id-donazzjoni,” qalet Gauci. “Hija ħarset fit-tul u għarfet li l-valuri etiċi u l-fiduċja tal-pubbliku għandhom jiġu qabel kollox.”

Il-Chairperson ta’ ADPD-The Green Party sostniet li “mhux kulħadd jgħama bix-xejxi, Sur Prim Ministru. Il-President wrietna li mhux kull ma jleqq bilfors deheb. L-integrità u r-reputazzjoni ma jistgħux jinxtraw bil-flus.”

ADPD-The Green Party jemmen li l-pożizzjoni tal-President turi kif għandha tkun it-tmexxija f’soċjetà mibnija fuq prinċipji ta’ trasparenza, onestà u rispett lejn in-nies.

The Prime Minister has no idea of what transparency, honesty and respect in governance looks like

“On behalf of ADPD-The Green Party, I would like to express my support for the President of the Republic Myriam Spiteri Debono. The President stood firm when she refused a donation from the company Binance, a company that is not new to rather serious scandals. This decision shows her integrity and her commitment to protect not only the reputation of the Malta Community Chest Fund but also that of the people who seek its help.” ADPD-The Green Party Chairperson said this in reaction to the uncalled for comments of Prime Minister Robert Abela about operational decisions by the Presidency.

Gauci added that the President demonstrated a strong sense of ethical leadership and moral courage. “If the MCCF loses its credibility, it would be a blow that would be felt for a long time, and precisely for this reason the President chose to reject this donation,” Gauci said. “She looked at the long-term picture and recognised that values and public trust must come first.”

“Not everyone is dazzled by what glitters, Mr Prime Minister,” Gauci remarked, “unlike others, the President showed us that integrity and reputation cannot be bought.”

ADPD-The Green Party believes that the President’s stance is an example of what real leadership should look like in a society built on transparency, honesty, and respect for people.
