ADPD-The Green Party endorses Manifesto for Sustainable Journalism

ADPD-The Green Party has joined journalists, activists, educators, academics, and representatives of media, civil society and educational organisations in endorsing the Manifesto for Sustainable Journalism in support of journalism as an essential pillar of democracy.

Sustainable journalism, as defined in the manifesto, aims at having journalistic practice conform to essential values like social justice, transparency and pluralism while ensuring the safety, well-being and recognition of those who produce the information.

The document was launched in a conference organized by Repubblika attended by ADPD-The Green Party’s Public Relations Officer Brian Decelis. In a statement after the conference Decelis said it was natural for ADPD-The Green Party to support such an initiative that seeks to strengthen the freedom of the press while facing up to the challenges that the media is facing today.

ADPD-The Green Party encourages others to sign the Manifesto for Sustainable Journalism to signal your commitment to the values of truth and accountability, social justice, human rights, environmental protection and the fight against corruption.

ADPD-The Green Party’s Chairperson Sandra Gauci said that a few days after the 8th anniversary from the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, safeguarding journalism remains important as ever, especially when impunity has become the order of the day for the current government and its operatives. “We must safeguard the journalist’s work in seeking the truth without fear or favour,” concluded Gauci.
