Fl-ewwel reazzjoni ta’ ADPD-The Green Party għall-verdett fil-ġuri rigward il-qtil ta’ Daphne Caruana Galizia, iċ-Chairperson ta’ ADPD-The Green Party, Sandra Gauci, sostniet li, essenzjalment, wara dawn is-snin kollha, l-Istat falla milli jasal għall-verità.
Gauci sostniet li dan il-ġuri kompla jitfa’ iktar dellijiet tqal fuq dawk li diġà kienu hemm, u għadda verdett skjaċċanti fuq l-Istat li, tul is-snin, ħalla s-sens ta’ impunità tirrenja; Stat li għalaq iktar minn għajn waħda għal kukkanja ta’ relazzjonijiet imqarrba bejn il-politika, persuni b’responsabbiltà regolatorja, il-pulizija u l-kriminalità, f’orgja ta’ kunflitti ta’ interess bla preċedent.
Il-ġuri jitfa’ dell serju wkoll fuq l-investigazzjonijiet li saru u li, minn xi daqqiet, dehru li mxew bl-ingwanti ma’ xi wħud. Dan anke fid-dawl tal-fatt li wħud mill-uffiċjali tal-Korp tal-Pulizija kienu ngħażlu mad-dinja kriminali.
Gauci staqsiet x’se jiġri fil-konfront ta’ nies li ssemmew fil-ġuri fuq in-naħa l-ħażina u li sal-lum għadhom fi rwoli pubbliċi ta’ responsabbiltà. Saħqet li l-Istat għandu l-obbligu li jsegwi l-indizji li ħarġu mill-ġuri u jibni fuqhom, biex min ħaqqu jħallas, iħallas.
Fl-aħħar mill-aħħar, tenniet Gauci, tibqa’ tidwi l-mistoqsija: “Jekk mhux Yorgen Fenech, min?”
Il-ġustizzja għadha trid issir. Sadanittant, Daphne ġiet assassinata għat-tieni darba.

“IF NOT YORGEN FENECH, WHO?”
In ADPD-The Green Party’s initial reaction to the verdict in the trial concerning the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, ADPD Chairperson Sandra Gauci insisted that, essentially, after all these years, the State has failed to arrive at the truth.
Gauci said that the trial has cast even deeper shadows over those that already existed, delivering a damning verdict on a State that, over the years, has allowed a sense of impunity to prevail; a State that has turned a blind eye, more than once, to an incestuous web of relationships between politicians, persons with regulatory responsibilities, the police and criminal elements, in an unprecedented orgy of conflicts of interest.
The trial also casts a serious shadow over the investigations undertaken, which at times appeared to have treated particular individuals with kid gloves. This is especially concerning in light of the fact that some police officers had become entangled with the criminal world.
Gauci asked what action will be taken against individuals who were mentioned during the trial and who, to this day, continue to occupy positions of public responsibility. She insisted that the State has an obligation to follow up on the leads that emerged during the trial and build on them, so that those who are guilty are held to account.
Ultimately, Gauci said, the question remains: “If not Yorgen Fenech, who?”
Justice is still to be done. In the meantime, Daphne has been murdered a second time.
