Syrian peacekeeping mission proposal to stop Assad – AD

Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party is supporting the Arab
League resolution calling for a joint Arab-UN peacekeeping mission to
end the brutality of Assad’s regime in Syria.

Prof. Arnold Cassola, AD spokesperson on EU and International Affairs,
said: “The Maltese government has done well to speak openly about the
urgent necessity for Bashar al-Assad to stop the killing of his own
people. He must give up his power in order to allow a democratic
government to take over in the country. The Maltese Foreign Minister
should now meet the Russian and Chinese Ambassadors in Malta and
express the concern of the Maltese people at the veto being exercised
by their two governments. The longer they wield the veto, the more
innocent Syrian blood will they have on their hands”.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson said: “Being so-called neutral in such an
issue is not an option. The Assad regime has n remaining legitimacy.
The European Union should exert more pressure for regime change in
Syria, towards democratic governance in support of democratic forces
of opposition”.
