Alternattiva Demokratika welcomes the positive move to set up an Integration Unit, which unit, funded through EU funds, will be responsible for drafting an integration policy. Malta is in dire need of a holistic integration policy because as a country with limited resources it is very important that all residents contribute to the social and economic well being of the country. This can only happen through a focussed programme where mutual respect and understanding is actively promoted.
Monique Agius, spokesperson on social policy said:”Language courses in both Maltese and English should be offered all residents irrespective of country of origin, in reception and open centres. Communicating especially in the host country’s mother tongue is central to a harmonious society. It is indeed encouraging to see young children in state primary schools, whose parents come from third countries speaking Maltese fluently and making it their own – this bodes well for the future of these children and of our society.”
AD also stresses the importance of including programmes on cultural awareness and on rights tied to the civic duties expected of anyone who resides in Malta in the policy drafted by the new unit.

Socjeta’ u ekonomija b’saħħitha jiddependu fuq l-kontribut ta’ kull membru tas-soċjeta’ tagħna
Alternattiva Demokratika tilqa’ t-twaqqif tal-Unit ghall-Integrazzjoni finanzjat minn fondi tal-UE u li se jfassal politika nazzjonali dwar l-integrazzjoni. Malta għandha bżonn din il-politika għax bħala pajjiz b’riżorsi limitati importanti li kull membru tas-soċjeta’ jikkontribwixxi lejn l-ġid soċjali u ekonomiku tal-pajjiż. Dan jista’ jseħħ biss b’programmi iffokati fuq ir-rispett reċiproku u programmi li jenfasizza r-responsabilitajiet li bħala membri tal-komunita’ għadna lejn xulxin.
Monique Agius, kelliema dwar il-politika soċjali qalet:”Korsijiet fil-Malti u l-Ingliż għandhom ikunu offruti fiċ-ċentri miftuħa u ċentri oħra lil kull min qiegħed Malta irrispettivament mill-pajjiż minn fejn ġew. Il-komunikazzjoni fil-lingwa Maltija hija essenzjali ghal komunita’ magħquda. Huwa ta’ sodisfazzjoni li tfal żghar fl-iskejjel primarji tal-istat ġejjin minn pajjiżi terzi jitkellmu bil-Malti xi kultant aħjar minn tfal Maltin. Huwa ċar li dawn it-tfal għamlu l-lingwa tagħna tagħhom u jħossuhom komdi fis-soċjeta’ Maltija. Dan jawgura tajjeb għal futur fejn kull persuna li għal xi raġuni sabet ruħha Malta tikkontribwixxi bis-sħiħ għal soċjeta’ b’saħħitha u ekonomija li taqdi l-bżonnijiet ta’ kulħadd.”
AD tenfasizza l-importanza ta’ programmi dwar għarfien kulturali u drittijiet marbuta mad-dmirijiet li kull wieħed u waħda fis-soċjeta’ Maltija għandna.
