“We want to invest in a Green economy, in education and in health care”
Together with other MEP candidates and European Parliament representative in Malta, Dr Peter Agius, Alternattiva Demokratika Chaiperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, visited Kidstart Childcare Centre in Santa Venera. Prof. Cassola congratulated the government for having implemented a proposal originally made by Alternattiva Demokratika, that of providing free childcare centres for the benefit of working parents and student parents. Cassola added “Making school an enjoyable process for children as from a very tender age fosters the love of knowledge and learning can help to eradicate the eventual high incidence of school truancy prevalent at the moment”. AD is also proposing that free childcare is extended to other categories, such as unemployed and job-seekers who are retraining to improve their employablity.
Prof. Cassola also lauded the members of the Kidstart Childcare Centre cooperative, who are a clear example not only of dedication to their work but also of innovative and energetic young entrepreneurship. SMEs and sustainable enterprises are at the centre of AD’s economic vision and proposals for the EP election campaign. ” We want to promote jobs that ensure long-term employment and job prospects: an economy based on inspiring ideas and innovation. Our answer to the crisis is a strategy of economic transformation built upon sustainability, solidity and solidarity. An economy that serves the people and our planet now, as well as future generations. We want to invest in a Green economy, in education and in health care.”

“Irridu u għandna ninvestu f’ekonomija sostenibbli, fl-edukazzjoni u fis-saħħa.”
Flimkien ma’ kandidati oħrajn u mar-rappreżentant tal-Parlament Ewropew f’Malta, Dr. Peter Agius, iċ-Chairperson tal-Alternattiva Demokratika, il-Prof. Arnold Cassola żar il-Kidstart Childcare Centre f’ Santa Venera. Prof. Cassola feraħ lill-gvern talli fl-aħħar wettaq proposta li l-ewwel li qatt saret kien mill-AD, jiġifieri childcare centres b’xejn biex igawdu minnhom ġenituri li jaħdmu u li jistudjaw. Cassola qal li l-fatt li l-iskola, sa minn età tant żgħira, tkun ħaġa daqshekk pjaċevoli, irawwem l-imħabba għall-għerf u t-tagħlim u jaf anki jżomm mill-assenzi twal u l-iskartar mill-iskola li qed naraw dan l-aħħar. L-AD qiegħda wkoll tipproponi li ċ-childcare b’xejn jiġi wkoll estiż għall-kategorija oħra bħal min hu qiegħed jew qed ifittex xogħol imma qed jitħarreġ mill-ġdid biex itejjeb l-impjegabbiltà tiegħu.
Il-Prof Cassola faħħar ukoll il-membri tal-kooperattiva tal-Kidstart Childcare Centre, li mhumiex biss eżempju ċar tad-dedikazzjoni lil xogħolhom imma anki ta’ impriża innovattiva, enerġetika u żagħżugħa. L-SMEs u l-intrapriżi sostenibbli huma fiċ-ċentru tal-viżjoni u l-proposti ekonomiċi tal-AD, speċjalment waqt il-kampanja tal-Parlament Ewropew. “Irridu nippromwovu xogħol fit-tul u mhux prekarju: eknomija msejsa fuq l-ideat, l-ispirazzjoni u l-innovazzjoni. Inwieġbu għall-kriżi bi strateġija ta’ bidla ekonomika mibinja fuq is-sostenibbiltà, is-solidità u s-solidarjetà. Ekonomija li taqdi lin-nies issa, u li tipprovdi għall-ġenerazzjonijet futuri. Irridu u għandna ninvestu f’ekonomija sostenibbli, fl-edukazzjoni u fis-saħħa.”
