With reference to the recent events in Ukraine, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said: “Whilst we welcome the agreed ceasefire in Eastern Ukraine, we still are concerned at the aggression in Ukraine, which has no legal or moral justification. We therefore ask the Maltese government to make the case in the European Council of Ministers that the state of affairs In Ukraine does not correspond to the European ideal of freedom, democracy and tolerance and to the concept of “Unity in Diversity”.

Apart from political and economic sanctions against Russia, the EU should clearly condemn Vladimir Putin’s attempt at absorbing other territories in order to propagate his ambition of creating a “Greater Russia”.

B’referenza għal dak li qiegħed iseħħ fl-Ukrajna, iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika, Prof. Arnold Cassola, qal: “Filwaqt li nilqgħu b’sodisfazzjon il-qbil li jkun hemm waqfien mill-ġlied fl-Ukrajna tal-Lvant, xorta ninsabu mħassbin dwar l-aggressjoni fl-Ukrajna li m’għandha l-ebda ġustifikazjoni legali jew morali. Għalhekk qed insejħu lill-Gvern Malti biex jippreżenta l-argument fil-Kunsill Ewropej tal-Ministri li dak li qed jiġri fl-Ukrajna ma jaqbilx mal-ideal Ewropew ta’ liberta`, demokrazija u tolleranza jew mal-kunċett ta’ “Għaqda fid-Diversita`”.

Barra mis-sanzjonijiet politiċi u ekonomiċi kontra r-Russja, jeħtieġ li l-UE tikkundanna l-attentat ta’ Vladimir Putin li jassorbi artijiet oħra biex jilħaq l-ambizzjoni tiegħu li joħloq “Greater Russia”.
