Parliament should approve Greek Bail out – AD

Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party urged Parliament to approve the Greek Bail in the respective parliamentary vote next Wednesday.  AD also expressed its support of the financial transactions tax proposed by the European Commission.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson and Spokesperson for Economy and Finance, said: “Solidarity is a key value in the European Union. The Greek Bail out will not only help prevent meltdown of the Greek economy, but will also help bring out stability both in Greece and in the Eurozone as a whole. It is in Malta’s interest to have a stable Eurozone, as this will help bring about economic and social stability. The alternative to this is increased poverty, unemployment and instability”.

“As regards the proposed financial transactions tax that is being proposed by the European Commission, this will help generate revenue which can be used to strengthen the European economy.  It is estimated that such a tax could generate up to €55 billion a year. It is high time that banks and financial institutions participate in responsibility sharing for the economic crisis, especially since they received massive help from public funds when this was needed. If workers and employers are paying tax to help sustain economic and social stability, then it is only fair that banks and financial institutions do the same”.

Il-Parlament ghandu japprova l-ghajnuna finanzjarja lill-Grecja – AD

L-Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party hegget lill-Parlament biex japprova l-ghajnuna finanzjarja lill-Grecja meta jittiehed il-vot fil-parlament nhar l-Erbgha.  L-AD esprimiet ukoll l-appogg taghha ghal taxxa fuq tranzazzjonijiet finanzjarji proposta mill-Kummissjoni Ewropea.

Michael Briguglio, ic-Chairperson tal-AD u kelliem ghall-Ekonomija u l-Finanzi, qal, “Is-solidarjeta’ hija valur baziku tal-Unjoni Ewropea.  L-ghajnuna lill-Grecja mhux biss tista’ sservi biex jigi evitat kollass totali tal-ekonomija Griega imma tghin ukoll biex iggib stabilita’ fil-Eurozone in generali.  Huwa fl-interess ta’ Malta li l-Eurozone tkun stabbli, ghax dan iwassal ghal stabilita’ ekonomika u finanzjarja.  It-triq l-ohra hija zieda fil-faqar, qaghad u instabilita”.

“Rigward it-taxxa fuq tranzazzjonijiet finanzjarji li qed tigi proposta mill-Kummissjoni Ewropea, din ser tghin biex tiggenera qliegh li jkun jista’ jintuza biex tissahhah l-ekonomija Ewropea.  Huwa stmat li taxxa bhal din tkun tista’ tiggenera sa €55 biljun fis-sena.  Wasal iz-zmien li banek u istituzzjonijiet finanzjarji jerfghu parti mill-piz tal-krizi ekonomika specjalment meta huma stess ircevew ghajnuna kbira minn fondi pubblici meta kellhom bzonn.  Jekk il-haddiema u min ihaddem qed ihallsu t-taxxi biex isahhu l-ekonomija u l-istabilita’ socjali, jaghmel sens li l-banek u l-istituzzjonijiet finanzjarji jaghmlu l-istess”.
