Prof. Arnold Cassola, AD spokesperson on EU and International Affairs, stated: “The proliferation of anti-democratic regimes even far away from us geographically has to be condemned, if the voice of our country and the EU has to maintain its credibility when intervening on non-democratic situations nearer our land and continent”.
Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said: “Both the European Union and Malta should protest and take concrete action against the coup d’état in Paraguay, where democratically elected president Fernando Lugo was ousted by oligarchs who are opposing his Government’s land reform programme which aims to reduce the harsh inequalities in one of the poorest countries in Latin America”.
