Migration: save lives and drastically revise the Dublin convention

During a meeting with AD Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola in Malta, French Green Senator Ango Ela Kalliopi stated: “The increasing migrant tragedies in the Mediterranean demand that Europe truly implements policies for the prevention of such deaths by developing measures of legal migration and by issuing temporary humanitarian visas in order to afford the necessary protection to such vulnerable people.”

“Moreover, we, French, Maltese and European Greens demand that asylum seekers should be offered the possibility of  mobility within the EU countries through the drastic revision of the present Dublin convention rules.”

Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said: “We European Greens are presenting a united front in our demand to overhaul the Dublin rules in such a way as to allow asylum seekers free movement in the EU once an application for asylum has been made on Maltese territory. Asylum seekers and the normal citizens are to be treated with dignity and respect.”

“Free movement in the EU should be made available to all law abiding people, independent of their economic means. The concept established by the Maltese government whereby only millionaires have talent, are individuals of high calibre and are of high value is absolute rubbish. ”

Is-Senatriċi Franċiża tal-Ħodor, Ango Ela Kalliopi, waqt laqgħa f’Malta maċ-Chairperson ta’ AD, Prof. Arnold Cassola qalet:  “Iż-żieda fit-traġedji li jinvolvu l-immigranti fil-Mediterran titolb li l-Ewropa tibda tassew  tħaddem politika biex jiġu evitati dawn l-imwiet. Jeħtieg li jiġu żviluppati miżuri li jirregolaw il-migrazzjoni legali u li jinħargu visas temporanji umanitarji biex dawn in-nies vulnerabbli ikollhom il-protezzjoni li għandhom bżonn.”

“Barra minn hekk, aħna l-Ħodor, Franċizi, Maltin u  Ewropej nemmnu li dawk li jkunu qegħdin ifittxu ażil ikollhom il-possibilta’ li jiċċaqalqu minn post għal ieħor ġewwa l-pajjiżi tal-UE permezz ta’ reviżjoni drastika tar-regoli eżistenti tal-konvenzjoni ta’ Dublin.”

Iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika, il-Professur Arnold Cassola, qal: “Aħna l-Ħodor Ewropej qegħdin nippreżentaw pożizzjoni waħda magħquda fis-sejħa tagħna biex jinbidlu r-regoli ta’ Dublin, b’mod li dawk li jkunu qegħdin ifittxu ażil ikollhom id-dritt għall-moviment ħieles fl-UE, ġaladarba tkun saret applikazzjoni għall-ażil fit-territorju Malti. Dawk li qegħdin ifittxu ażil kif ukoll iċ-ċittadini normali jeħtieg li jiġu trattati b’dinjita’ u rispett.”

“Il-moviment ħieles fl-UE għandu jkun possibbli għal kull min jirrispetta l-liġi, irrispettivament mill-mezzi ekonomiċi tiegħu jew tagħha. Il-kunċett stabbilit mill-Gvern Malti fejn min hu miljunarju għandu t-talent u huwa ta’ kalibru u valur għoli huwa purament ħmerija.”
