Commenting on the negative vote against Leo Brincat in the European Parliament, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said: “Leo Brincat, who had the political experience and the professional background to be able to do a decent job in the European Court of Auditors, was quite ambivalent in his answers at the EP parliamentary hearing, after having voted in favour of Konrad Mizzi in the Maltese parliament in a motion of no confidence. He has therefore ended up paying for the shameful unethical behaviour of Minister Konrad Mizzi and Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Keith Schembri in the Panama Papers affair.”
“Unfortunately, it is our whole country’s reputation that is being internationally smeared in the process. Our country cannot afford this going on. Matters can only get worse in the next months. The European Parliament Panama Investigation committee will be coming to Malta by the end of the year to collect facts and interview witnesses.”
“It is imperative that Prime Minister Muscat immediately ditches Mizzi, Schembri and any other politician and hangers-on involved in the Panama Papers scandal. Malta simply cannot afford being foul mouthed internationally any longer because of this lot, even more soon the eve of its taking up the EU Presidency in January 2017″.

Malta tħallas għall-imġiba mhux etika ta’ Konrad Mizzi u Keith Schembri
F’kumment dwar il-vot negattiv kontra Leo Brincat fil-parlament Ewropew, iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika, il-Prof. Arnold Cassola, qal: “Leo Brincat, li kellu l-esperjenza politika u l-background professjonali biex ikun jista’ jkopri r-rwol tiegħu b’mod deċenti fil-Qorti Ewropea tal-Awdituri, kien ambivalenti fit-tweġibiet tiegħu fis-seduta tal-Kumitat Parlamentari Ewropew wara li kien ivvota favur Konrad Mizzi fil-Parlament Malti f’mozzjoni ta’ sfiduċja. Huwa għalhekk spiċċa jħallas għall-imġiba mhux etika u tal-mistħija tal-Ministru Konrad Mizzi u taċ-Chief of Staff tal-Prim Ministru,Keith Schembri fil-kwistjoni tal-Panama Papers.”
“Sfortunatament, hija r-reputazzjoni sħiħa ta’ pajjiżna li qed tiġi mħammġa fuq livell internazzjonali. Pajjiżna ma jistax jippermetti lli din is-sitwazzjoni tibqa’ għaddejja hekk. L-affarijiet jistgħu biss jeħżienu fix-xhur li ġejjin. Il-Kumitat Parlamentari Ewropew li qed jinvestiga l-każ tal-Panama Papers ser jkun Malta sal-aħħar tas-sena biex jiġbor l-informazzjoni u jkellem lix-xhieda.”
“Hija għalhekk ħtieġa assoluta li l-Prim Ministru Muscat jkeċċi minnufih lil Konrad Mizzi, lil Keith Schembri u lil kull politiku jew kulmin hu involut fl-Iiskandlu tal-Panama Papers. Ma jistax ikun li nħallu li Malta tkompli tingħata isem hażin fuq pjan internazzjonali minħabba dawn in-nies, aktar u aktar lejliet il-bidu tal-Presidenza Maltija tal-Unjoni Ewropea.”
