Malta needs young innovative entrepreneurs

2point3

Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Prof. Arnold Cassola, Deputy Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo and Secretary General Ralph Cassar visited the graphic design studio 2point3 offices in Valletta.

2point3 is a graphic design studio based in Valletta, co-founded by 2 young MCAST Art & Design graduates Nigel Anastasi and Luke Caruana. The studio offers 2-D and 3-D visual services varying from identity design, information graphics, editorial, web, packaging, and way-finding systems. The pair established 2point3 due to their common vision in graphic design, which is to communicate identities into a clear perspective with recognisable graphics that go deeper than the surface value.

Prof. Cassola said: “2point3 is the typical example of the innovative entrepreneurial spirit of two Maltese youths who have decided to combine their creative graphic talent & skills to produce compelling visual identities and messages. Their initiative has not only contributed to creating an SME which is of no burden to the state and creates employment but is also contributing to the regeneration of Valletta since a formerly old and decaying structure has been transformed into a vibrant office in the heart of the capital. A veritable example of ‘Greener and Cleaner’.”

Carmel Cacopardo said that the Green Economy can be constructed through a multiple number of such micro-initiatves. Together they can add up to thousands of jobs for both the young and the not so young. Governments tend to concentrate their efforts on macro projects. It has to be borne in mind that micro initiatives can also contribute substantially to the economy. These initiatives must be nurtured amongst other things by ensuring that costs induced by the state and or organisations in a dominant position should be kept to a minimum. Cacopardo added that in this sense the psotion taken by GRTU recently on the need for banks to consider more realistic interest rates for loans to SMEs (small, medium and in particular micro enterprises) should be addressed without further delay.

Luke Caruana, co-owner of 2point3, said: “Large businesses such as advertising agencies unfortunately tend to suffocate the individual’s ideas. That is why Nigel and I felt the need to open our independent studio from where we could express our common philosophy of graphic identity. Valletta was for us an ideal creative workplace since it is still considered a main business & cultural centre. Hopefully a defined regeneration plan of the empty city areas will take place soon so as to encourage more people from the creative sector to follow suit.”

Malta għandha bżonn aktar imprendituri żgħażagħ innovattivi, tgħid AD

Iċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika il-Prof. Arnold Cassola, id-Deputat Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo u s-Segretarju Ġenerali Ralph Cassar żaru l-uffiċini tal-kumpanija tad-disinn grafiku 2point3 fil-belt Valletta.

2point3 hija kumpanija tad-disinn grafiku bbażata l-Belt Valletta li ġiet imwaqqfa minn żewġ gradwati żgħażagħ tal-MCAST fl-Arti u d-Disinn, Nigel Anastasi u Luke Caruana. L-istudjo joffri servizzi viżwali 2-D u 3-D li jvarjaw minn disinni ta’ identita`, grafiċi ta’ informazzjoni, editorjal, web, ippakkeġġjar u sistemi ta’ ‘way finding’. Dawn iż-żewġ żgħażagh waqqfu 2point3 fuq bażi tal-viżjoni komuni li jħaddnu, li hija li jikkomunikaw identitajiet f’perspettiva ċara bi grafiċi li jintagħrfu u li jidħlu fi profondita` lil hinn minn dak li jidher fil-wiċċ.

Il-Prof. Cassola qal: “2point3 hija eżempju tipiku tal-ispirtu innovattiv imprenditorjali ta’ żewġ żgħażagħ Maltin li ddeċidew li jgħaqqdu flimkien it-talenti u l-ħiliet tagħhom biex jipproduċu disinni u messaġġi viżwali li jħallu impatt. L-inizjattiva tagħhom mhux biss għenet biex tinħoloq kumpanija żgħira li ma titfa l-ebda piż fuq l-istat u li toħloq l-impjiegi imma li qed tikkontribwixxi wkoll għar-riġenerazzjoni tal-Belt għax binja qadima u mitluqa ġiet mibdula f’uffiċju ħaj fil-qalba tal-Belt. Eżempju veru ta’  xogħol sostenibbli u ekokompatibbli.”

Carmel Cacopardo qal li l-Ekonomija l-Ħadra tista’ tinbena permezz ta’ numru minn dawn l-inizjattivi  żgħar.  Flimkien jistgħu joħolqu eluf ta’ impjiegi kemm għaż-żgħażagħ kif ukoll għal dawk li m’għadhomx daqshekk żgħażagħ. Il-Gvernijiet għandhom ħabta jikkonċentraw fuq proġetti kbar. imma tajjeb li niftakru li inizjattivi żgħar jistgħu jikkontribwixxu sostanzjalment għall-ekonomija. Dawn l-inizjattivi jistgħu ikunu mgħejuna billi naraw li spejjeż imposti mill-Gvern jew organizzazzjonijiet b’saħħithom jinżammu baxxi kemm jista’ jkun. Cacopardo żied jgħid li f’dan ir-rigward, il-pożizzjoni li ħadet il-GRTU dan l-aħħar dwar il-ħtieġa li l-banek jikkunsidraw rati ta’ interess aktar raġonevoli meta jsellfu lil kumpaniji żgħar speċjalment dawk li jkunu żgħar ħafna, għandha tkun indirizzata mill-aktar fis possibbli.

Luke Caruana, wieħed mill-propjetarji ta’ 2point3, qal: “Kumpaniji kbar bħal dawk tar-riklamar sfortunatament għandhom ħabta jifgaw l-ideat ta’ individwi. Kien għalhekk li jien u Nigel ħassejna l-ħtieġa li niftħu l-istudjo indipendenti tagħna fejn stajna nesprimu l-filosofija komuni tagħna ta’ identita` grafika. Il-Belt Valletta għalina kienet post tax-xogħol kreattiv ideali peress li għadha meqjusa bħala ċentru ewlieni tal-kummerċ u l-kultura. Nisperaw li jkun hemm pjan ta’ riġenerazzjoni fil-futur qarib għal dawk l-ispazji vojta fil-Belt biex aktar nies mis-settur tal-kreattivita` jitħajjru jagħmlu bħalna.”
