Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party is asking the Maltese government to set up an independent enquiry on Gaddafi-Malta dealings in the past 40 years.
Prof. Arnold Cassola, AD spokesperson on EU and International Affairs, stated: “PN Secretary General Paul Borg Olivier has said that the PL has received money directly or indirectly from the blood-stained hands of Gaddafi. Former Prime Minister Alfred Sant has written that a Libya Foreign Minister has declared that PN politicians have used their public positions for private gain. In view of these serious assertions, an independent Board of enquiry should be immediately set up”.
“The enquiry should also investigate the CIA 1989 revelation that Sergeant Mario, Mr Johnny and Mr M., all working at Luqa airport, were in the pay of the Libyan Secret Service, whilst Libyan Secret Service man Mustafa Hasuni was “also utilised as conduit to the Malta Labour Union leaders and influential members of the Maltese Nationalist Party”. It is also the Maltese people’s right to know who are the Maltese partners of the Gaddafi family entourage that invested 87 million Euros in our country. Persons who had a direct business involvement with the Gaddafi family or, who represented the Gaddafi family in dealings, should not be appointed ambassadors or entrusted with any position of trust in Maltese institutions”, concluded Prof. Cassola.
Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson said: “In the post-Gaddafi context, the Maltese Government should support a transition towards democracy, human rights, social justice and environmental justice. Malta’s foreign policy should give due importance to such priorities in addition to economic and strategic concerns. Just as Malta played a role in the downfall of Gaddafi, it should play a role in the call for ethical foreign policy with regard to the ousting of brutal regimes”.
Libya: L-AD titlob ghal Bord ta’ Inkjesta indipendenti dwar il-konnessjonijiet bejn Malta u Gaddafi
L-Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party qed titlob lill-Gvern Malti biex issir inkjesta indipendenti dwar il-konnessjonijiet bejn Malta u Gaddafi tul dawn l-ahhar 40 sena.
Prof. Arnold Cassola, il-kelliem tal-AD dwar l-UE u l-Affarijiet Internazzjonali, qal: “Is-Segretarju Generali tal-PN Paul Borg Olivier qal li l-PL kien ircieva flus direttament jew indirettament minghand Gaddafi. L-ex Prim Ministru Alfred Sant kiteb li Ministru tal-Affarijiet Barranin Libjan iddikjara li politici mill-PN uzaw il-pozizzjoni pubblika taghhom ghal interessi privati. Fid-dawl ta’ dawn l-allegazzjonijiet serji, ghandu jitwaqqaf Bord ta’ Inkjesta indipendenti b’effett immedjat”.
“L-inkjesta trid tinvestiga wkoll dak li kienet zvelat is-CIA fl-1989 li s-Surgent Mario, Mr Johnny and Mr M., li kollha jahdmu fl-ajruport ta’ Hal-Luqa, kienu qed jigu mhallsa mis-Servizzi Sigrieti Libjani filwaqt li Mustafa Hasuni kien gie “also utilised as conduit to the Malta Labour Union leaders and influential members of the Maltese Nationalist Party”. Huwa wkoll dritt tal-poplu Malti li jkun jaf min huma s-siehba Maltin tal-familja Gaddafi li investew 87 miljun Ewro gewwa pajjizna. Persuni li kellhom x’jaqsmu direttament fin-negjozju mal-familja Gaddafi jew li irrapprezentaw lill-familja Gaddafi, m’ghandhomx jinghataw il-kariga ta’ ambaxxaturi jew pozizzjonijiet ohra ta’ fiducja f’istituzzjonijiet Maltin”, ikkonkluda l-Professur Cassola.
Michael Briguglio, ic-Chairperson tal-AD qal: “Fil-kuntest ta’ wara l-era ta’ Gaddafi, il-Gvern Malti ghandu jappogga il-mixja lejn id-demokrazija, id-drittijiet umani, il-gustizzja socjali u dik ambjentali. Il-politika barranija ta’ Malta ghandha taghti importanza lil dawn il-prijoritajiet minbarra kwistjonijiet ekonomici u strategici. Bhalma Malta kellha rwol importanti fil-waqgha ta’ Gaddafi, issa ghandu jkollha rwol fis-sejha ghal politika barranija etika fir-rigward tat-tnehhija ta’ regimi brutali mill-poter”.
