Il-Gvern u l-Oppozizzjoni jerġgħu jibku d-dmugħ tal-kukkudrilli

Wara l-inċident fatali tal-kamra tan-nar f’Tas-Salini qed nerggħu naraw xi wħud jibku d-dmugħ tal-kukkudrilli – fosthom il-Ministru Michael Farrugia u l-Membru Parlamentari Kristy Debono. Dawn huma l-istess persuni ipokriti li flimkien mal-Parlament kollu ivvutaw ta’ malajr emendi fil-liġi li li tagħmilha possibli li l-kmamar tan-nar ikunu iktar viċin in-nies, bil-periklu b’kollox.

“Tajjeb f’dan il-kuntest li niftakru li ftit ġimgħat ilu l-Qorti tal-Appell, dwar kawza li saret mill-komunita rurali taz-Zebbiegh tletin sena ilu, ħassret permess ta’ kamra tan-nar fiż-Żebbiegħ, u dan minħabba li ma kienitx tosserva d-distanzi minimi meħtiega mill-liġi. Sfortunatament din id-deċiżjoni tal-Qorti ġiet newtralizzata, għax il-Parlament Malti, bi qbil unanimu, emenda l-liġi biex jagħti lill-Kummissarju tal-Pulizija l-awtorita li jkun jista’ joħroġ il-permess għall-kamra tan-nar xorta wahda, minkejja li l-qisien minimi ma jkunux osservati,” Dan qalu ċ-Chairperson ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika Carmel Cacopardo.

“Bħas-soltu issa jkollna l-inkjesti, u imbagħad taparsi nisimgħu li l-gvern se jieħu passi. Kif ġara fil-passat, inkluż wara r-rapport Vella dwar l-inċidenti fil-kmamar tan-nar, jerġa’ jintesa kollox. Il-Membri Parlamentari, il-Gvern u l-Oppozizzjoni huma kompliċi, jibku d-dmugħ tal-kukkudrilli, jippoppaw sidirhom fil-funerali u fl-istess ħin ipoġġu n-nies fil-periklu bin-nuqqas t’azzjoni tagħhom.”

L-ipokrezija tal-Gvern u l-Oppozizzjoni kollha kemm hi tbellħek.

Government and Opposition’s crocodile tears

After the fatal accident at the Tas-Salini fireworks factory we are seeing the usual spectacle of government and opposition MPs shedding crocodile tears – including Minister Michael Farrugia and MP Kristy Debono. These are the same hypocrites who along with the entire Parliament in March voted quickly to amend the law enabling fireworks factories to reduce safety distances, with all the danger for people this brings about.

“In this context it is pertinent to remember that a few weeks ago the Court of Appeal, decided a case by the Zebbiegh community, which was pending for 30 years. The court canceled the permits of the Zebbiegh fireworks factory because it did not observe the minimum distances required by law. Unfortunately this decision was neutralized, because the Maltese Parliament, unanimously, amended the law to give authority to the Police Commissioner to be able to issue a permit for the factory anyway, although the minimum distances were not observed,” said AD’s Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo.

“As usual we will now get the usual inquiries, and then we will all hear government solemnly declare that it will take steps to increase safety standards. But as happened in the past, including after the Vella report on accidents in fireworks factories, everything will be forgotten. All Members of Parliament, the Government and the Opposition are accomplices, they shed crocodile tears, they will occupy the front benches in funerals but at the same time they fail to act.”

On this issue, the government and the opposition are really double faced.
