An AD delegation led by Chairperson Arnold Cassola has partcipated in the European Green Party Convention held in Brussels during the weekend. The Convention approved the Common Manifesto for the upcoming EU Parliamentary Elections as well as various resolutions, including one critical of the current negotiations on a trade agreement between the EU and the USA.
Arnold Cassola stated that important matters concerning Maltese interests have been included in the EGP Manifesto. These include proposals relative to migration and transparency in the financing of politics included in the manifesto as result of discussions in which AD took an active part in the past weeks.
The Manifesto proposes to get rid of the current Dublin rules which currently forbid irregular migrants from departing receiving countries such as Malta. This would enable these migrants to relocate to other countries within the EU.
In addition the Manifesto calls for the enforcement of trasparent financing rules for political parties, candidates and election campaigns relative to EU Parliament elections.
The Convention also approved a statement in the Common Manifesto emphasing sexual and reproductive rights. AD delegates at the Green Convention voted against this provision in view of its long standing opposition to abortion. This opposition by Alternattiva Demokratika is reflected in the final document. Likewise AD voted against a motion critical of the Spanish Government in its revision of Spain’s abortion legislation.

Delegazzjoni immexxija miċ-Ċhairperson Arnold Cassola ipparteċipat fil-Konvenzjoni tal-Partit Ewropew tal-Ħodor li saret fi Brussels fi tmiem il-ġimgħa. Il-Konvenzjoni approvat il-Manifest Komuni għall-elezzjonijiet ta’ Mejju tal-Parliament Ewropew kif ukoll diversi riżoluzzjonijiet inkluża kritika tan-negozjati kurrenti mal-Istati Uniti ta-Amerika dwar trattat li jirrigwarda l-kummerċ.
Arnold Cassola qal li materji ta’ importanza għal Malta ġew inklużi fil-manifest tal-EGP. Dawn jinkludu l-migrazzjoni u l-finanzjament tal-politika inklużi fil-manifest bħala riżultat ta’ diskussjonijiet li fihom AD ħadet sehem attiv matul il-ġimghat li għaddew.
Il-Manifest jipproponi bidla radikali fir-regoli ta’ Dublin li bħalissa jipprojibixxu immigranti nirregolari milli jitilqu minn pajjiżi li jkunu waslu fihom, bħal Malta.Dan jagħmilha possibli illi immigranti jkunu jistgħu jmorru f’pajjiżi oħra.
B’żieda ma dan il-Manifest jagħmel sejħa biex ikunu infurzati regoli trasparenti dwar il-finanzjament tal-partiti politiċi, il-kandidati u l-kampanji elettorali għall-elezzjonijiet tal-Parlament Ewropew.
Il-Konvenzjoni approvat ukoll dikjarazzjoni fil-Manifest Komuni li biha ġew emfasizzati drittijiet sesswali u reproduttivi. Id-delegazzjoni ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika fil-Konvenzjoni tal-Ħodor ivvutat kontra din id-dikjarazzjoni u dan in vista tal-posizzjoni kostanti ta’ AD kontra l-abort. L-opposizzjoni ta’ Alternattiva Denokratika hi riflessa fid-dokument finali. Għall-istess raġunijiet AD ivvutat kontra mozzjoni kritika tal-Gvern Spanjol dwar ir-reviżjoni tal-leġislazzjoni Spanjola fuq l-abort.
