With reference to the meeting for Mediterranean EU member countries convened by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Athens yesterday, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Prof. Arnold Cassola, stated: “Alternattiva Demokratika looks positively at such intiatives. AD has always insisted on the implementation of a strategy for the Mediterranean.  It strongly believes that such a macro-strategy would give added value to EU policies and regional development initiatives.”

“A joint position of Mediterranean countries on the major issues hitting the region – such as migration, integration, terrorism, peaceful co-existence in a multicultural society and unemployment could be instrumental for the creation of a really effective European policy in these areas.  In this respect, it would be desirable that both EU Mediterranean member states as well as non-EU Mediterranean member states cooperate together to ensure that the Central Mediterranean prospers economically, socially and environmentally”.
