Alternattiva Demokratika Żgħażagħ reiterated its position in favour of a fast ferry service from Sa Maison or other central locations to Gozo. ADŻ considers this option as being the only viable option, both in financial and in ecological terms. ADŻ also expresses its disappointment that both Government and Opposition, who pose as ecologists when it suits them, are in favour of the extremely expensive and greatly inefficient system – an underwater tunnel. ADŻ stated that a fast ferry service incurs no extra traffic and additional polluting traffic jams and would allow Gozitans to greatly reduce their journey time. The way forward is mass transportation systems – which decrease pollution and reduce traffic.
ADŻ chairperson Marc’Andrea Cassar stated that: “A tunnel is a very expensive option which would still force Gozitans to travel a very long distance all along Malta. Gozitans will have to pay a fortune on polluting petrol and diesel not to mention that they will also get stuck in traffic every day”.
“All the talk about timeframes for the contruction of the tunnel is completely off the mark, especially since long and expensive studies need to take place as pointed out by the geologist during the pro-tunnel lobby’s meeting. Those millions of Euros can be better spent on more logical solutions such as offering fast ferry services from Gozo to the centre of Malta.”

ADŻ favur sistema effiċjenti ta’ laneċ veloċi
Alternattiva Demokratika Żgħażagħ itenni l-pożizzjoni tagħha favur sistema ta’ laneċ veloċi minn Sa Maison jew postijiet oħra ċentrali sa Għawdex. ADŻ tikkunsidra li din l-għażla hija l-unika waħda vijabbli, kemm f’ termini ekonomiċi, kif ukoll f’ termini ekologiċi.
ADŻ ukoll esprimiet id-diżappunt tagħha dwar il-fatt li kemm il-gvern u kif ukoll l-oppożizzjoni, li jippużaw ta’ ekoloġisti meta jaqblilhom, huma favur il-mina, li f’għajn ADŻ hija ineffiċjenti u għalja. ADŻ issostni li sistema ta laneċ veloċi tfisser li jitnaqqas it-traffiku u minn jivjaġġa bejn il-gżejjer ma jispiċċax jeħel għal ħinijiet twal fit-traffiku. Hija soluzzjoni illi tista’ tgħin lill-Għawdxin biex inaqqsu sostanzjalment il-ħin tal-vjaġġ tagħhom u wkoll jitnaqqas kemm it-tniġġis tal-arja bir-riperkussjonijiet kollha fuq is-saħħa tan-nies, kif ukoll it-traffiku esaġerat.
Iċ-Chairperson tal-ADŻ Marc’Andrea Cassar stqarr illi: “Il-mina hija għażla għalja ħafna li kieku isseħħ xorta iġġiegħel lill-Għawdxin jivvjaġġaw it-tul ta’ Malta biex jaslu sad-destinazzjoni tagħhom. L-Għawdxin xorta se ikollom iħallsu ħafna flus għall-petrol u d-diesel, it-tariffa biex wieħed juża l-mina, u ħa jeħlu fit-traffiku ta’ kuljum”.
“Barra minnhekk id-diskors dwar timeframes għal mina huwa totalment barra minn loku, minħabba l-ħela ta’ flus li jkollu jsir għal studji li jieħdu ħafna żmien, kif stqarr l-ġeologu stess waqt il-laqgħa ta’ dawk li qed jimbuttaw għal bini tal-mina. Il-miljuni ta’ Ewro li hemm bżonn għall-istudji jistgħu minflok jintefqu fuq soluzzjonijiet aħjar u aktar fattibbli bħal servizz ta’ laneċ veloċi bejn Għawdex u ċ-ċentru ta’ Malta.”
