PR03/12/2015 AD insists on access to assistive technology for persons with disability
During the week for persons with disability, Dr Claire Azzopardi Lane spokesperson for Sports and Disability of Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party, continues to reiterate the importance of moving on from the culture of charity Malta is so used to, towards a rights based cultural approach.
“Technology can be seen as a way of reaching the rights of persons with disability and this is the main theme the National Commission for Persons with Disability chose to focus on this year.”
“The right of making an informed choice, the right of social inclusion and the right to work are amongst the examples where rights can be obtained through technology. AD emphasises the need of assistive technology to enhance the Civil Rights of persons with disability, such as the right to vote. Finally AD underlines the importance for persons with disability to be able to access technology without having to resort to charities to fund such technology.”
