Alternattiva Demokratika tilqa’ d-deċiżjoni tal- Qorti Ewropea għad-Drittijiet tal-Bniedem, liema deċiżjoni ħassret d-deċiżjoni li ħadu l-awtoritajiet Maltin tmien snin ilu biex iwaqqfu d-dramm ‘Stitching’. Din id-deċiżjoni assurda, ikkonfermata mill-Qorti Kostituzzjonali ta’ Malta fl-aħħar tħassret mill-Qorti Ewropea għad-Drittijiet tal-Bniedem.
F’pajjiż demokratiku azzjonijiet bigotti ta’ ċensura fuq l-arti mhux aċċettabbli. Pajjiż demokratiku għandu jipproteġi u jirrispetta l-liberta’ ta’ ħsieb u tal-espressjoni u mhux iwaqqafha.
Iċ-Chairperson ta’ AD Carmel Cacopardo qal:”Il-liberta’ tal-espressjoni hija sinjal ta’ soċjeta’ tolleranti u demokratika, inkluż l-liberta’ ta’ espressjoni artistika. Il-liberta’ tal-espressjoni tmur id f’id mar-rispett tad-diversita’ u ta’ opinjonijiet differenti.”

AD welcomes ECHR decision on play
Alternattiva Demokratika welcomes the decision of the European Court of Human Rights which overturned the absurd decision taken eight years ago by the authorities and confirmed by the Constitutional Court in Malta to ban the play Stitching.
There is no place for such bigoted acts of artistic censorship in a democratic country which aspires to respect freedom of thought and expression.
“Freedom of expression should be the hallmark of a tolerant and democratic society in all areas. Keeping, however, in mind that freedom of expression goes hand in hand with the respect of diversity and diverse opinions,” concluded AD Chairperson, Carmel Cacopardo.
