AD meets speaker and discusses divorce and democracy

In a meeting between a delegation of Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party and speaker of the House Michael Frendo, AD said that any reforms taking place through parliament should aim for a more inclusive, just, sustainable and democratic society, rather than to strengthen the PNPL duopoly. AD also referred to situation regarding the divorce referendum.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said that “the issue is simple. Over 53% of voters want the introduction of divorce in Malta. Parliamentarians, who did not have the courage to take a decision on divorce and shifted the responsibility onto the people through a referendum, should stand by the result of the referendum. Those who are not ready to vote in favour should resign.”

Apart from Michael Briguglio, AD’s delegation also comprised General Secretary Ralph Cassar, Deputy Chairperson Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer, International Secretary Arnold Cassola, and Executive member Carmel Cacopardo.

AD tiltaqa’ ma’ l-ispeaker u tiddiskuti d-divorzju u d-demokrazija

F’laqgha bejn delegazzjoni ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika u l-ispeaker tal-kamra Michael Frendo, AD qalet li kull riforma li qed tigi diskussa fil-parlament ghnadha timmira li twassal ghal socjeta’ iktar inklussiva, gusta, sostenibbli u demokratika, u mhux li ssahhah id-duopolju tal-PN u l-PL. AD irreferiet ukoll ghall-kwistjoni tad-divorzju.

Michael Briguglio, ic-Chairperson tal-AD, qal li “il-kwistjoni hija semplici. Aktar minn 53% tal-votanti jridu l-introduzzjoni tad-divorzju f’Malta. Membri parlamentari li ma kellhomx il-kuragg li jiehdu decizjoni dwar id-divorzju u ghaddew ir-responsabbilta fuq il-poplu permezz ta’ referendu, issa ghandhom jonoraw ir-rizultat tar-referendu. Dawk li mhux lesti li jivvutaw favur ghandhom jirrizenjaw.”

Id-delegazzjoni ta’ AD kienet iffurmata mic-Chairperson Michael Briguglio, is-Segretarju Generali Ralph Cassar, id-Deputat Chairperson Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer, is-Segretarju Internazzjonali Arnold Cassola, u l-membru ta’ l-ezekuttiv Carmel Cacopardo.
