In a speech yesterday during a political activity, Prime Minister Robert Abela was quoted as stating that “this week he had met a Magistrate who had lamented that when tough sentences are delivered, these are subsequently reduced by the Court of Appeal.”
Carmel Cacopardo, Chairperson of ADPD-The Green Party states that the very fact that this meeting has taken place, even if it was an unplanned encounter, is worrying. It is very worrying that the Prime Minister meets with a member of the judiciary, a Magistrate, and discusses with him/her the decisions delivered by the Courts. This behaviour is censurable, both that of the Prime Minister as well as that of the Magistrate, whose identity is so far unknown.
Carmel Cacopardo concluded by finally calling on the President of the Republic “to call an urgent meeting of the Council for the Administration of Justice in order that the necessary action is taken.”

Ħtiega ta’ passi kontra l-Prim Ministru u Maġistrat
Il-bieraħ il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela, f’diskors waqt attività politika ġie rappurtat li qal li “din il-ġimgħa tkellem ma’ Maġistrat li stqarret miegħu li meta jingħataw pieni ħorox, il-Qorti tal-Appell tnaqqas din il-piena.”
Iċ-Chairperson ta’ ADPD-The Green Party Carmel Cacopardo jikkummenta li l-fatt li saret din il-laqgħa, anke jekk kienet waħda li seħħet b’kumbinazzjoni hu ta’ tħassib kbir. Huwa inkwetanti li l-Prim Ministru jiltaqa’ ma Maġistrat, membru tal-ġudikatura, u jiddiskuti miegħu/magħha is-sentenzi li jingħataw mill-Qrati. Dan l-aġir hu ċensurabbli kemm fil-konfront tal-Prim Ministru kif ukoll fil-konfront tal-Maġistrat li l-identità tiegħu/tagħha, s’issa, mhiex magħrufa.
Finalment, Carmel Cacopardo ikkonkluda billi qal li hu jsejjaħ “lill-President tar-Repubblika biex kif inhu dmiru jlaqqa’ b’urgenza l-Kunsill għall-Ammistrazzjoni tal-Ġustizzja biex jittieħdu l-passi meħtieġa immedjatament.”
